Chamber of Commerce > What is COGG?

Coalition Of Greater Greenville

COGG was formed in the early 1990’s with the goal of creating a healthier community.

There is no application to join, no membership fees, and COGG has no authority whatsoever. Yet COGG is one of the most powerful entities in our community!

To clarify, COGG is communicating and collaborating as a whole community. We seek input from the ministerial alliance, the City of Greenville, surrounding townships, businesses, schools, our community college, healthcare providers, and citizens at large.  Together, we set and prioritize goals, hold each other accountable, move our vision forward, and shape our future.

Our efforts  and resources are focused rather than divided.  As a result, the school millage, MCC’s millage renewal, fundraising for a new library facility, the hospital's $17 million expansion, and most recently, the schools "OUR 3" campaign can receive the attention they deserve.

Here is a summary of Greenville's vision, created through citizen input:

  1. We will be a progressive community with a small town feel: a friendly & safe place to raise successful children.
  2. We will be a community that fosters lifelong learning and encourages residents, families & visitors to stay & play.
  3. We will be a community that encourages economic development and we will support the investment of local businesses.
  4. We will be a community with a vital downtown that attracts both residents and visitors.
  5. We will be a community that preserves and enhances our natural resources.
  6. We will be a community where healthy lifestyles are promoted.
  7. We will be a cultural community that encourages grassroots arts, culture and entertainment; welcoming outside groups to expand our horizons.
