Property TransfersIn the year following a transfer of property the taxable value of the property uncaps and matches the new state equalized/assessed value of the property. This action can result in changes in the annual property taxes. A Property Transfer Affidavit (Form L-4260) must be filed within 45 days of a transfer or a penalty can be imposed.
Homestead Status ChangesHomestead properties receive beneficial tax treatment because they do not pay school operating taxes. A property must be owned and occupied as a principal residence to qualify as a homestead property. A request for homestead exemption must be filed on the Homestead Exemption Affidavit (Form 2368).
Land DivisionsLand splits must be approved by the Assessor’s Office to ensure the split does not violate zoning requirements and the Sub-Division Control Ordinance. Please complete an application here and return to the Assessors Office.
Personal Property StatementsEach business must file this form annually. The Assessor’s Office determines the Assessed Value based on the State Tax Commission Depreciation Schedules.
Industrial Facilities Exemption (IFE)Industrial businesses can apply for tax abatement on new buildings, additions, rehabilitation, and personal property.
